What helped me feel like not-an-imposter
I spent several years in technology feeling like a bit of an imposter until I met the group of people I now refer to as my hype squad.
I’m grateful to them for:
Teaching me gitflow over beers using random objects to represent commits and branches
Giving feedback while I practiced a talk over and over again. And again. And again. AND AGAIN.
Offering help, multiple times, even when I’d never taken them up on the offer before
Talking honestly about their experiences learning, failing, and burning out
Commiserating with me about the phrase “not technical enough”
Sitting with me while I completed a tutorial, chilling and doing their own thing, in case I had any questions
Trying out the design sprint process with me, for funsies
Connecting the dots between ethics in technology and dismantling white supremacy
Spending a loooong time helping me get my computer set up to start a hackathon project
Sharing their favorite tutorials and coding tools with me
That, and a lot of really excellent gifs. :)
